But in early 2007, fourteen-year-old daughter Mary Kathryn, known as MK, began to complain of a variety of health issues.

After numerous doctor visits, the results of her MRI showed a large mass on the left side of her brain. The family was sent immediately to Childrens Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, where a surgeon was waiting for MK. Holding Her Mat follows the Fletchers through a six-month ordeal- beginning with the fateful diagnosis that dramatically changed their lives. This incredible book gives a day-by-day account of the familys journey through these dark and scary times as they learn that, by completely giving control to God, they are able to see blessings in all that God had planned.

Inspiration for the book comes from verses found in Mark 2:1-5 & 11 (NIV) that speak of the power of faith as Jesus heals a paralytic who had been carried to Him by friends. Because of the faith the friends have in Jesus healing power, the paralytic walks. Like the paralytic, MK was carried to the feet of Jesus through the faith of family, friends, her competent medical staff, and even complete strangers.
